Asylum procedure times must be shortened

In the current political situation, asylum procedure times are in the public eye. This is because the limitation of irregular migration through the repatriation of rejected asylum seekers is limited by the duration of asylum proceedings at the administrative courts. While the average duration of court proceedings in 2022 was still 26 months, this could be reduced to 21.9 months in 2023.

Considering the number of cases still pending, however, it is not to be expected that the duration of proceedings at the administrative courts will be significantly reduced. For at present (as of 31/07/2023), 120,487 lawsuits, 1,141 appeals and 18 appeals are still pending before the courts. The total number of lawsuits and subsequent application proceedings does not indicate that the burden on the courts due to pending asylum proceedings differs very significantly depending on the federal state.
